For fourteen years, Philadelphia Hospitality has presented the prestigious Vision for Philadelphia Award, showcasing an extraordinary individual whose leadership helps the Philadelphia region gain increased worldwide recognition as a lively travel destination, a business-friendly corporate location and an exciting place to live.
This past June, Philadelphia Hospitality was delighted to honor Nicholas DeBenedictis, Chairman and CEO of Aqua America. Our annual Vision for Philadelphia Award Gala was held in the beautiful Loews Philadelphia Hotel on Thursday, June 7, 2007. The festive reception and dinner paid tribute to Nick's outstanding civic leadership in both the public and private sectors and his dynamic promotion of our region.
As we celebrate Philadelphia Hospitality's 25th anniversary, it was very fitting that our honoree shares our goals and energetically promotes the region through his leadership of effective and vital organizations. Some of these include the Philadelphia Convention & Visitors Bureau, the Greater Philadelphia Chamber of Commerce and the Greater Philadelphia Tourism Marketing Corporation. Moreover, Nick has been at the forefront of a signature civic achievement - the Pennsylvania Convention Center.
As Chairman and CEO of Aqua America, Nick leads a home-grown company that continues to successfully expand across the country while increasing jobs in our own region. He served in two cabinet positions under Governor Thornburgh as Secretary of the Department of Environmental Resources and Director of the Office of Economic Development. Nick's expertise in water resources and his environmental engineering master's degree from Drexel University make him a natural proponent of enlightened public policy on environmental issues as well as the crucial areas of health and education.
We were proud to celebrate Nick for his outstanding contributions and his dedication as a community leader and businessman to our region's economic growth.
