Each year Philadelphia Hospitality presents the prestigious Vision for Philadelphia Award, in keeping with our work of highlighting the best of Philadelphia. The award showcases an extraordinary individual whose leadership increases worldwide recognition of Philadelphia's vibrant cultural, educational and economic life.
This year, we are delighted to honor our senior senator, Arlen Specter, who has worked tirelessly and imaginatively throughout his distinguished forty-seven year career in public service to promote the interests of Philadelphians and Pennsylvanians. There is no more respected and eloquent spokesperson for our Commonwealth than the Senator, whose judgment, wisdom and courage enhance the reputation of our great state.
Through his leadership as Chairman of the Senate Judiciary Committee and as a senior member of the Veterans Affairs and the Appropriations committees, he has championed our city and region and created a lasting legacy for our nation.
Philadelphians, in particular, have benefited from his work in the crucial areas of mass transit, highways, high-tech and bio-tech industries, and tourism. And as Chairman of the Senate Appropriations Subcommittee on Labor, Health and Human Services and Education, Senator Specter's dedication to medical research and education continues to benefit our community.
We are extremely proud to recognize Arlen Specter for his extraordinary service to Philadelphia and to the nation - and for his farsighted vision for our future.
